No, Dr. Oz, Soy Milk is Not Paleo

For those of you interested in the Paleo diet that I have nick-named the Chiropractic-Partner Diet, please be careful who you listen to regarding how to get started.

Dr. Oz thinks he made his own modifications to the Paleo diet to make it modern which defeats the purpose.  Modern food is killing us!  Soy milk is not Paleo.  Also he sneaked in the grains.  He says quality is better than quantity, so whole grains are included.  That is not Paleo.

And, really?  Protein only needs to be 10% of your diet.  That means carbs and fat are 45% each?  This is so way off track.  Remember surgery is his day job and that's what he is best at.

Blogger, Nell Stephenson, writes her own critique of Dr. Oz's article which she provides a link.

How to Need Less Supplements

I've talked with people who buy over $300-$400 worth of supplements a month so they can have better health. I've also talked with people who go to Kinney's or WalMart and buy an antioxidant for $7.00. Who is healthier?

Did you say neither? I hope so.

It is an disputable fact that we need supplements because the food supply is grossly adulterated all the way from the farm to the store and then your home.

Soil nutrients are depleted, processed foods are made from GMO corn and other grains. Sugar use has skyrocketed in the last century giving us some pretty addictive desires for unhealthy foods. Even our mass farmed livestock are over fed grains and chemicals for a better profit outcome.

All that said, even with a steady diet of home cooked foods and fresh produce (as fresh as we can get from the store) we need to supplement with high quality vitamins, minerals, and adaptogenic nutricueticals.

I truly believe a good supplement routine is necessary for optimal health. Do you need to spend $300-$400 dollars a month? No. If you are ask yourself this: Am I feeling better? It is possible you still have nagging health issues.

Should you go to Kinney's and WalMart and buy what is on the shelves? No. You must have more on the label than a cheap price. A supplement company should be researched for its raw materials, bio-availability, and purity testing.

We know we need to make a small investment in supplements but how do we narrow down the choices?

The most important factor is your daily diet. At this point, evaluate how close you are to the Paleo-Primal diet. I say this because if you are not, you are probably taking needless supplements to help you with health issues related to your diet.

If you think your diet is healthy, visit my Myth of the Month website. And stick around on my new Time to GO Paleo blog. More is coming.

When you fix your diet, you will need less supplements.

Ask me about it at your next visit. We will discuss if you are getting enough protein. A poor protein balance can throw off Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium . More minerals won't fix it. Protein intake will. We can talk about replacing grains with high fat foods that make your appetite happy and your waistline smaller.

See you at the table...the chiropractic table.

How to be a Real Rebel

Here is a super article from J. Stanton about the entrenchment poor eating has had on the economic system. He didn't even mention the health insurance industry although he did say millions of people have died when they followed bad dietary advice. Here is just a sampling:
  • The medical and nutritional establishments hate paleo, because we’re exposing the fact that they’ve been wrong for decades and have killed millions of people with their bad advice.
  • The agribusinesses and industrial food processors hate paleo, because we’re hurting their business by not buying their highly profitable grain- and soy-based products.
  • The mainstream media hates paleo, because they profit handsomely from advertising those grain- and soy-based products.
  • The government hates paleo, because they’re the enforcement arm of big agribusinesses, industrial food processors, and mainstream media—and because their subsidy programs create mountains of surplus grain that must be consumed somehow.
The entire article is very good. You must read the whole thing. Even when I was a vegetarian for ten years I didn't run into such a compelling augment until now. READ IT HERE.
